Event Detail

Bharat ZET Policy Advisory Consultative Workshop for Vehicle Manufacturers

Date:

NITI Aayog’s e-FAST India platform, in collaboration with WRI India, convened an online focused consultation with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to catalyze India’s transition to zero-emission trucking.

This session builds on the Bharat Zero Emission Trucking (ZET) Policy Advisory, a pioneering initiative by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, by translating its strategic recommendations into actionable steps through stakeholder engagement.

⚡ Part of a nationwide consultation series, this effort aims to capture insights from key stakeholders and shape policy measures that accelerate the adoption of zero-emission trucks.

Some highlights from the convening:

  • Long-term policy clarity and phased localisation are key to accelerating EV adoption, supported by well-defined standards for charging and battery swapping that still allow for technological innovation.
  • Priority sector lending, improved debt access, financial mechanisms such as resale credit-risk guarantees and building national testing centres are critical to building a credible and resilient secondary market for e-trucks.
  • Economic viability of e-trucks is improving on high-use corridors, but wider adoption needs supportive measures that improve Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), such as toll waivers, rationalised charging tariffs, and contract-tenure reforms.
  • Scaling e-trucks also depends on grid-ready infrastructure, addressing distribution-level power constraints, and investing in skilling for manufacturing and EV-focused research and development.
