Understanding the e-FAST process

What we do Banner

Freight transport decarbonization can be achieved through several strategies, but among them, the transition to zero/low-emission alternative technologies will be a significant one. Freight electrification requires coordinated efforts of policy makers, manufacturers, transporters and other stakeholders.

Creating an optimal transition pathway requires a collaborative approach, that allows for information exchange through national and international-level peer-to-peer learning and ideation opportunities to address on-ground challenges. Enabling this conversation and creating an ecosystem for idea exchange through e-FAST will be a significant first step toward achieving the decarbonization goal.

Our Approach

Awareness and Capacity Building

Raising awareness on existing policies and the need for freight electrification

Leveraging learnings from global pioneers and enabling hands-on learning experiences

Knowledge sharing by encouraging ecosystem development through quarterly meetings and working groups

International e-freight action: Three Streams of Work

eFAST India and ZEV EMI are working together to enhance collaboration between public authorities, the private sector, and investors. With an aim to develop a national roadmap for transitioning the middle and heavy-duty vehicles to electric technologies, a task force of regulators and industry experts will focus on catalysing freight decarbonisation, increasing investment opportunities, promoting industry development and demonstrating the economic, environmental and social implications of decarbonization. This will be achieved through coordinated activities on the following three work areas:

Policy

  • Inform decision-makers for strategizing pathways to accelerate ZET adoption
  • Supporting localization of policy frameworks through capacity building and information dissemination
  • Local ecosystem development

Financing

  • Identifying risk sharing mechanisms and financial models to improve access to low-cost capital for ZETs
  • De-risking the financing facility by identifying and designing instruments for private-sector finance blending while mobilizing private-sector investors.

Demand Aggregation

  • Capturing industry sentiments on electric technologies for decarbonizing freight movement to increase market visibility and meeting sustainability commitments.
  • Understanding roadblocks, industry expectations, and demand signals to inform investments, policy support, and geographical priorities.
  • Data aggregation is likely to lead to a diversified product mix, achieve economies of scale, and establish favorable operating environments.
