India’s Road to Zero-emission Trucking: Tracking Early Electrification Efforts
India’s Road to Zero-emission Trucking: Tracking Early Electrification Efforts
India’s road freight sector, dominated by diesel-powered medium- and heavy-duty trucks (MHDTs), contributes approximately 35% of fuel consumption and 45% of transport emissions. With the fleet projected to grow 2.6 times by 2050, transitioning to zero-emission trucks (ZETs) is critical.
Early e-MHDT Pilots in India
Battery electric MHDTs (e-MHDTs), the most mature ZET technology, are being piloted across diverse use cases in India. This report by e-FAST India in collaboration with its knowledge partners, Climate Group, and CEEW, presents insights from seven early e-MHDT pilot projects, highlighting diverse business models, stakeholder collaboration, and the experiences of fleet operators, OEMs, logistics providers, and truck drivers.
