IIM Bangalore Achieves ISO 14083 Certification for its Freight Emission Measurement Tool - TEMT
The TCI-IIMB Supply Chain Sustainability Lab at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), an e-FAST India knowledge partner, has proudly become the first organization in India to achieve ISO 14083 certification for its innovative and user-friendly digital platform, the Transportation Emissions Measurement Tool (TEMT). This certification underscores the platform’s ability to accurately quantify and report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from freight transportation activities, helping organisations to manage and ultimately reduce their emissions in line with regulatory requirements and sustainability goals.
By leveraging certified emission calculation capabilities, the TEMT platform helps organizations accurately quantify and report their emissions across multiple transport modes. TEMT’s emission factor APIs are integrated with the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), a government initiative that consolidates logistics systems into a single digital platform for seamless and efficient operations across India. This enables the development of actionable and effective emission reduction strategies, promoting transparency and sustainability in freight operations.
TEMT empowers users to calculate emissions for both past and future shipments. It allows for comparisons of emissions across different transport modes for specific routes, facilitating informed decisions. Furthermore, users can build customized transportation chains within the platform. Finally, the platform enables the tracking of emissions on a monthly or year-over-year basis, providing valuable insights for emission reduction strategies. TEMT is commodity-agnostic, storing data securely in the cloud and providing outputs in PDF and CSV formats for easy reporting and analysis.

The ISO 14083 developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) provides a global standard for quantifying GHG emissions from transport operations. It covers fuel combustion and electricity consumption and applies to road, rail, air, maritime, and inland waterway transport.
IIMB's achievement represents a significant step towards data-driven policymaking, capacity-building initiatives, and the adoption of sustainable logistics practices.
